Sofapaka on-song, Zoo beaten: Umaru dismantles Chemelil, Omondi scores brace for Leopards

Sofapaka kept pace with Kenyan Premier League leaders Gor Mahia after beating Chemelil Sugar 4-1 as George Abege’s double helped Sony Sugar torpedo champions Tusker’s title hopes yesterday.

Raymond Omondi also scored a brace as a rejuvenated AFC Leopards clawed their hosts Zoo Kericho 3-1.

Ugandan import Umaru Kasumba hit a hat-trick with Ezekiel Okare netting the other goal to leave Batoto Ba Mungu six points behind Gor (47), who had mauled Nzoia Sugar 4-0 on Saturday.

The victory in Kericho saw Leopards move up to the 12th place with 27 points, two behind 11th placed Zoo.

It took only six minutes for Omondi to break the deadlock after he latched on Marcelus Ingotsi’s well executed corner kick to beat Zoo goalkeeper Samwel Koko.

Enterprising winger Samuel Ndung’u could have doubled the lead in the 12th minute, but Koko's good reflexes denied him a goal.

Omondi grabbed his second goal of the game on the half hour mark before Ingosti set up Vincent Oburu to open his league account in the 56th minute.

In Awendo, Abege made a superb return from a long injury lay-off, scoring a brace against struggling Tusker.

The Ugandan striker broke the deadlock in the eighth minute before beating Tusker goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng on a one on one situation. Sony Sugar won 2-0.
