Two Meru aspirants have asked area Senator Kiraitu Murungi to accept defeat and retire from active politics to pave way for youthful leaders.
Former Central Imenti MP Gitobu Imanyara and his Buuri counterpart Boniface Gatobu said Kiraitu has already lost the governor’s bid because of his leadership style.
Speaking yesterday at Kithaku market, Gitobu, who is also eyeing Meru governor seat, said the recent Infotrak poll that ranked Governor Peter Munya ahead of Kiraitu in the race is “a true picture” of an early defeat.
Imanyara accused Kiraitu of being greedy for power, adding that he breached the Ameru MoU that leaders agreed that the senator seat remains among the Imenti sub-tribe for 10 years and that governors be in Tigania for the same period.
