Politics and media as a new play is set to open in Nanyuki and Nairobi.

What Happens in the Night is a play that delves into the lives of news makers, media personalities, artistes and leaders who are expected to give commentary on current times.

What happens when the scandals they investigate and instigate follow them home?

It is a riveting drama about a prominent family trying to balance their personal baggage with being in the limelight, while interrogating the on-goings of Kenya in frustrating times.

Martin Kigondu the writer and director of What Happens In The Night told ActScene he would like the audience to see politics for the game that it is.

The cast includes some of the biggest names in Kenyan theater led by Salim Gitao, Chichi Seii, Mourad Sadat and Nick Ndeda.

Salim plays Don and his character hits close to home because he is a father and he follows up on politics.

“Don is an ex politician and is the father to Ngendo (Chichi Seii) and Roy (Mourad Sadat). My character sees himself in his kids and is now in some way trying to compensate for not being there for them as they were growing up,” said Salim.

Chichi Seii says she learnt that life is a crazy paradox. She ponders that in the end, family is what matters.

“If you don’t see that in life, you will see it when death comes knocking and it may find you full of regrets and propel you onto a tangent that sets you off the course into some dark places,” she says.

Shows will be staged at Le Restique restaurant, Nanyuki, on Sunday and at Daystar University, Valley Road, on Saturday October 14.
