Mombasa governor on a second term Hassan Joho can now breathe a sigh of relief after his security detail was fully reinstated, 8 months after it was controversially withdrawn by the government.
His bodyguards were reinstated soon after it was confirmed that Joho would be Mombasa governor for a second term.
During his inauguration, Hassan Joho could be seen surrounded by a number of bodyguards in black suits – an indication that he was fully recognized as governor with his own set of security.
The move comes 8 months after a tussle between Joho and Uhuru Kenyatta saw his security withdrawn.
At the time, his five bodyguards were withdrawn and the outspoken governor apparently stormed Coast Regional Commandant Francis Wanjohi’s office demanding an explanation to the move.
The government soon after the drama , attempted to reinstate the security detail, a move which an angry Joho vehemently decline in January.
“They wanted to put illegal arms and contraband in my house and to spy on me all the time and give the government Intel but I thank God I knew this in advance,” Joho had said at the time.
