An Administration Police officer attached to Molo police station shot dead his girlfriend and later claimed his own life after they quarreled on the night of Tuesday, September 27.
The two leave behind a young son who watched as life was snapped out of his parents in their rented house in Nakuru town.
The couple's neighbors said they heard a loud bang after a short commotion in the house and on checking, found the officer holding his rifle.
According to them, the two had been staying in the apartment for the past one month and seemed to be happy.
The officer identified as Stephene Mungai, had plastered his social media page with photos of his son posing with the mother.
Nakuru OCPD Joshua Omukata has said investigations have been launched to ascertain how the officer had his AK47 rifle at his house and reason for his action.
Neighbours suspect the man was angry at the woman after another man was said to have spent a night in their house.
Their bodies were removed and taken to county mortuary as the rifle was taken for analysis.
