Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s motorcade was Monday afternoon stoned by demonstrators in Kawangware, Nairobi shortly after visiting Gatina Primary School.
The Acting Interiors CS Matiang’i who is also the substantive Education Cabinet Secretary had visited Gatina Primary School to check on the progress of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) rehearsals. KCPE candidates are set to begin the national examination on Tuesday and complete the exercise by Thursday, November 2.
After his visit, the Cabinet Secretary had moved to address the crowd when people started chanting ‘Matiang’i must go!’.
Police used tear gas to disperse the agitated crowd that had started pelting stones at CS Matiang’i’s motorcade.
Matiang’i has since denied being in the motorcade when the incident happened. "I have been informed that my staff were stoned... but I have no facts about it," said CS Matiang'i.
