Could a streaming only service for sport be in the works in South Africa?

Rumour has it, ShowMax and DSTV will be "integrating". And while sources don't want to divulge too much... we're hoping for some sporting magic...

If you’re a sports fan, your DStv subscription is probably a bit of a grudge payment every month. Sure, you get to watch bucket loads of sport all on one service, but you might feel like the fee you are paying is a bit extortionate.

Well, that might change in the future – emphasis on might. MyBroadband reported this week that Showmax is being integrated into DStv.

Now, while a spokesperson confirmed to the online that a collaboration was “on the cards” they did not provide any details.

However, speculation is rife that content previously exclusive to DStv could become available as part of a video streaming package – without the need for a satellite TV subscription.

When Showmax launched, the sharing of resources between it and DStv – including content rights and staff – was expected. However, the two services would compete against one another for subscribers.
