Seven people have been killed among them students and a watchman after an attack in Lokichogio Mixed Secondary School in Turkana in a suspected revenge attack.
Four students who were seriously injured during the attack have been rushed to Lopiding Sub County Hospital for treatment with referral cases taken to Kakuma Mission Hospital.
Police officers at the scene suspect a student who had just been suspended went and gathered members of an outlawed militia and then stormed into the school.
According to the Ward Administrator Lokichogio, Obed Echip, the suspects arrived at the school at 12 am and proceeded to the girls’ dormitory where they switched off the lights and started raping the girls.
They then proceeded to the boys’ dormitory and started shooting indiscriminately.
Earlier on, the suspended student in question promised to attack the school in a retaliatory attack following a fall out between him and a fellow student.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered police to pursue the killers of the seven students and a night guard.
In a statement, the President says he is saddened by the death of young innocent lives lost at the school adding that his thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected in the attack.
The unprecedented incident is said to have taken place in the wee hours of Saturday morning where the suspects shot and killed 7 students while 17 others sustained bullet wounds.
